Current Projects

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

My latest projects are the following:
*Translating the rest of the "Palamite Controversy" article that Dr. Peter Gilbert has not had time to post [DTC 11.2:1795-1818]
*Translating the Latin of the work "On Essence and Energy" of the holy Manuel Calecas [PG 152:283-427]
*Translating the Latin of the work "Against Gregory Palamas" by Demetrius Cydones [PG 154:838-863]
*Translating the Latin of Book One of "On Essence and Energies" by Gregory Acindynus [PG 151:1191-1218]
*Translating the Latin of Book Two of "On Essence and Energies" by Gregory Acindynus [PG 151:1218-1242]

The Anti-Palamites attacked the Palamites because they thought that the latter taught the heresy that God's essence and energy are really distinct from each other and the divine attributes are really distinct among themselves.{1} Now that the Catholic Church has given equivalent canonization to St. Gregory Palamas,{2} it seems more likely that the latter taught a formal distinction à la Bl. John Duns Scotus.{3} While St. Gregory Palamas undeniably taught heresy concerning the Filioque, the magisterium has come to a moral certainty that he repented of his heresy before he reposed.{4}
