Every punishment is for a sin [Summa Theologica II-I, q. 87, art. 7]. Should this nation not suffer some kind of disaster for being faithless like the Israelites of old?
And though the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and seer, "Give up your evil ways and keep My commandments and statutes, in accordance with the entire law which I enjoined on your fathers and which I sent you by My servants the prophets," they did not listen, but were as stiff-necked as their fathers, who had not believed in the LORD, their God. Amen. God does believe in justice and punishing individuals for one's sins, so I don't see any difference in him punishing a nation or nations for there sins.

God Bless.
