God is not a man, that He should lie, nor is the son of man, that He should be changed

Numbers 23:19 rules out the Incarnation

St. Moses the great prophet writes in Nu 23:19: "God is not a man, that He should lie, nor is the son of man, that He should be changed. Hath He said then, and will He not do? hath He spoken, and will He not fulfill?" The grammatical construction does not rule out the Incarnation. It does not exclude the following propositions concerning the Person of the Son of God which all Christians affirm: (1) "God is man" [Phil 2:6-7]; (2) "Man is God" [Rom 9:5]; and (3) "God was made man" [Jn 1:14].{1} Rather, St. Moses says that God is not a man Who can lie and is not the Son of man in the sense of being able to change. In other words, God is impeccable and immutable. All Christians affirm that Christ, the Son of God and the Son of man, is impeccable and immutable.{2}
