Prepodobne Andrei Rublev [1370-1/29/1430], the greatest medieval Russian iconographer who painted the beautiful Hospitality of Abraham [Gen 18], is most assuredly a saint. The monk Andrei Rublev was a loving, peaceful, joyful, humble, and patient man who engaged in prayer, abstinence, and strict fasting, and he frequently assisted the needy and received Holy Communion.{1} He was privileged by God to experience visions and contemplate the Uncreated Light,{2} and upon his death he appeared radiantly to his beloved friend Daniel Chornii, who was also a monastic painter and writer of icons, and invited him to join him in Heaven, according to St. Joseph of Volokolamsk.{3} St. Andrei Rublev, pray for us!
