Chicken or the Egg?

The egg came before the chicken

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? That is to say, did birds come first or did bird eggs in general come first? For a creationist like me who reads Genesis as literal history in the spirit of the Church Fathers and illustrious Popes like Pelagius I and Leo XIII in addition to the Pontifical Biblical Commission, the answer is simple. God created Adam and Eve as adults, and so He created all animals as adults; this follows from a plain exegesis of Gen 1:20-21. God created mature birds as first animal parents who laid eggs when they fruitfully multiplied [Gen 1:22].
