Monks And Nuns In The Bible

Monasticism is unbiblical

Monks and nuns are found in the Bible. For example, the Nazirites in the Old Testament took solemn vows of asceticism (Num 6:2-4,6-8) and had a distinct appearance (Num 6:5). Monks in the Bible include St. Samson (Judg 13:5-6), St. Samuel (1 Sam 1:11), and St. John the Baptist (Lk 1:15). St. Anna was a prophetess and nun (Lk 2:36-37). St. Justin Martyr cited celibate monks in Mt 19:12. Widowed women lived a consecrated life after taking solemn oaths of celibacy in 1 Tim 5:3-12.
