Thank God I wasn't reinjured today. Today I did a wide variety of exercises. I will be all set for unrestricted gym on 4/7 and I will be able to play team basketball on 4/19. I blasted my quads, shoulders, arms, and back. I ran two laps in gym on the grass just inside of the track. I also did a painless shuttle run, clocking in at a good time despite taking it easy.

Catholic Icon Veneration Does Not Equal Idolatry

MYTH
Catholic icon veneration is nothing else than idolatry

Catholics use images of angels and saints for worship purposes (to be in the presence of God) and do not worship the images themselves.

[Under construction!!!]

Holy Water

Holy water is Biblical. Aaron and his sons were washed in holy water in Exodus 29:4; 30:18-19; and Leviticus 8:6. The priest uses holy water in Numbers 5:17, and God uses "the water of remission" to convey His grace in Numbers 8:7. Holy water is used in worship in King Solomon's temple in 1 Kings 7:38-39. In John 9:6-7 Jesus uses clay and spittle to give sight to the blind man in order to show that God uses material things He created to convey His grace and heal us. The apostles' feet are washed in John 13:4-10 so that they are ready for sacramental priesthood. Based on John 19:34, the Catholic Church uses holy water to show that the Lord's water gives life and presents the power of Jesus Christ in baptism, the Eucharist, etc.

Extreme Unction

MYTH
The Catholic practice of extreme unction is unbiblical

Extreme unction (the anointing of the sick) is indeed a Biblical concept. The apostles anointed the sick with oil and cured them in Mark 6:13. The priests also anoint the sick with oil in James 5:14-15.

My First Mass at a Local Parish

I very much enjoyed my first Mass at the local parish today. The priests are funny, wise, and dedicated, and the churchgoers are kind and considerate. I came out of church feeling ecstatic and very spiritually healthy. I look forward to attending Mass in the future and I know this church is right for me. It will truly bring me closer to God, purify me, and help me overcome sin and gain self-control. Praise the Lord Jesus!

Video Game Nostalgia

CounterStrike, which I've played but have yet to download, is easily one of the best videogames ever made. It totally deserves the 98% PC Magazine assigned it. I think the best compilation of Nintendo games on a single cartridge is "Super Mario All Stars & World." I've beaten all the games, but I've been playing them regularly for about 7 years and still having as much fun as the first day.

Emulators and ROMs are still available here and there. It's a shame the site http://mame.dk no longer has the ROM files posted. I still would have many classic arcade games for MacMAME if one of my computers (an iMac) didn't mysteriously crash many years ago. It was relatively new and worked fine, and I think my youngest brother had something to do with it. To get the computer to work at all Apple had to wipe the hard drive, thus the arcade games are lost. Luckily, many arcade games are becoming available in the Flash format on gaming sites.

The ROMs I lost (and miss!) include Donkey Kong, Crazy Kong, Food Fight!, Bump-N-Jump, Mario Bros., Vigilante, Galaga, Gingateikoku No Gyakushuu (LOL), Red Alert, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, I'm Sorry [1], Centipede, Millipede, Balloon Fight, Gauntlet I & II, Ghouls n Ghosts, Bubble Bobble, Dig Dug I & II, Cheeky Mouse, Frogger, Heli Fire, Pac-Man Plus, Joust, Karate Champ, Missile Command, Mr. Do!, Q*Bert, Duck Hunt, Puckman, Punch-Out!!, Swarm, Tempest, Pitfall II: The Lost Caverns, Donkey Kong Junior, and a few others I can't recall at the moment. I hope these games some day get re-released for new systems. Some of them are available on the Namco Video Game Museum series.

[1] I'm Sorry is a bizarre 1985 Coreland/Sega game featuring enemies Carl Lewis, Michael Jackson, Japanese comedian Tamori, and professional wrestler Giant Baba. When you get caught by the men in sunglasses they wear S&M clothes and whip you while you wear a diaper.

When I went to Spanish class today there was a bookmark on my desk from PrayerCard.net. It includes a prayer for the spiritual adoption of an unborn child whom you will eventually know for the rest of eternity. This is the prayer, which the card recommends saying every day for a year:

Jesus, Mary, Joseph,

I love you very much;

I beg you to spare the life

of the unborn child that

I have spiritually adopted,

and who is in danger of being

aborted.

Mary's Assumption

MYTH
There is no Biblical basis for the Catholic doctrine of the Assumption of Mary

It is reasonable to believe that Mary's Assumption into Heaven is a historical fact. Enoch went straight to Heaven without dying [Genesis 5:24; Hebrews 11:5] and so did Elijah [2 Kings 2:11-12; 1 Maccabees 2:58]; God would probably do the same for the Immaculate Ark of the New Covenant [Exodus 25:11-21; 2 Samuel 6:2,7,9,11,16; Hosea 13:12-13; Micah 4:9-10;1 Chronicles 13:9-10,14; 15; 16; Isaiah 66:7; Jeremiah 13:21; Luke 1:39,41,56; Galatians 4:19; Romans 8:22; Revelation 11:19; 12:1-2,13-17].

Psalm 132:8 prophesies Jesus and Mary being taken up to their eternal resting place in Heaven. Apostolic tradition—of which Paul stresses the importance in 2 Thessalonians 2:15--states that Mary was assumed into Heaven.

For AP World History I'm reading The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale because thinking positively is something I need to do. I recommend that you get a hold of this book right away. When I'm finished I plan to write an Amazon review of it. I was reading the excellent Chinese historical novel Mandarin by Robert Elegant, which has lots of luscious language and a brilliant plot, but I don't have enough time to finish it before the end of quarter three. I'm probably going to save it for next quarter or maybe the summer.

Mary Queen of Heaven

MYTH
The Catholic doctrine that Mary is the Queen of Heaven is unbiblical

The Catholic idea that Mary is our Mother and the Queen of the New Davidic Kingdom has a solid scriptural foundation.

Christ On the Cross
In John 19:26, Jesus says "Behold your mother" while dying on the Cross. His words apply to all of us, and he wasn't merely telling John to take care of Mary after He died.

The Woman In Revelation
Revelation 12:17 says that the woman's offspring follow Jesus Christ. The woman is Mary, she is our Mother, and we are her offspring . Mary's spiritual Motherhood completes God's family covenant.

Marian Intercession
Jesus lets Mary intercede for the people on His behalf in John 2:7.

Old Testament Parallels
Psalm 45:9 shows that Mary the Queen of Heaven is at the right hand of the Son of God (Jesus).
There is a bridge between 1 Kings 2:17,20 and the New Testament. King David didn't refuse his mother in the Old Testament Kingdom. Jesus is the new King and doesn't refuse the requests of Mary Mother of God, the Queen. Mary succeeds the Queen Mother of Old Testament times, interceding on our behalf . With these parallels established, 1 Kings 2:19 shows that we honor our King Jesus Christ when we honor Mary our spiritual Mother.

Purgatory Is Scriptural, Pt. 2

Many other Bible verses show that Purgatory exists.

Posthumous Non-Eternal Purifying Punishment
Luke 12:47-48 says that when the Master comes, some will receive light or heavy beatings but will live. The Master is God. This is not Heaven, because in Heaven there is no suffering. This is also not Hell, because God is not present there, and Hell is the second death. "47 And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more."

Paul Prays For the Deceased Onesiphorus
In 2 Timothy 1:16-18, Paul prays for mercy on the deceased Onesiphorus. Paul uses "on that day" in an eschatological sense, the same way it is used in Romans 2:5,16; 1 Corinthians 1:8; 3:13; 5:5; 2 Corinthians 1:14; Philippians 1:6,10; 2:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:2,4,5,8; 2 Thessalonians 2:2-3; and 2 Timothy 4:8. Mercy isn't necessary in Heaven, and it doesn't exist in Hell. Onesiphorus is being purified of his venial sins in Purgatory. "16 The Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain; 17 but when he arrived in Rome, he sought me out very zealously and found me. 18 The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that Day—and you know very well how many ways he ministered to me[a] at Ephesus."

Paul talks about being baptized on behalf of the dead to atone for their sins in 1 Corinthians 15:29-30. These people weren't in Heaven at the time because they are still with sin/impure [see Revelation 21:27], and they weren't in Hell because there is no atoning for sins in Hell. They were in Purgatory. " 29 Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead? 30 And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour?" This verse corresponds to 2 Maccabees 12:42-46.

Thus Purgatory is indeed Biblical. The Bible includes the Deuterocanon. One of the arguments against the Apocrypha's canonicity is that it contains the unbiblical doctrine of Purgatory, but this argument fails.

Wisdom 3:5-6 discusses the purification of souls in Purgatory. In Baruch 3:4 Baruch prays for deceased Israelis, and this is unnecessary for those already in Heaven or Hell. 2 Maccabees 12:42-46 explicitly states that prayers for the dead help free them from sin and get to Heaven . People in Heaven are sinless and people in Hell cannot be freed from sin. In Jude 1:23 people are being released from the fires of Purgatory because those in Heaven are already fully purified and those in Hell can't be saved. "23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire,[a] hating even the garment defiled by the flesh."

Justification is Infused

FACT
The Bible teaches that justification is infused by God

In my reply to Gavin on Purgatory, I stated that justification is infused rather than imputed, but didn’t mention any scriptures that support this view. They include Psalm 51:1-2; 51:7-10; Isaiah 1:18; 43:25; 44:22; 64:5; Ezekiel 36:26-27; 37:23; Matthew 5:3,5-6,8,20,28; 6:1; 8:3; 15:18; 23:25-28; Mark 17:15; Luke 1:6; 6:21; 11:39-40; Acts 3:19; 10:35; 22:16; John 1:29; 1 Corinthians 3:9; 6:11; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 4:16; 5:17; 7:1; 13:5; Romans 4:3; 5:17,19; Philippians 2:13; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 4:22-24; Galatians 6:15; Colossians 3:10; 1 John 7,9; 3:7,10; 2 Peter 1:4; and Revelation 19:8.

Thank God I'm Back In Action!

Today I got to play gym for the first time since mid-November. I race-walked on the track for the routine warmup lap and played knockout, taking it really easy and not really jumping (taking set shots). It's a pleasant surprise that my shot is still pretty decent despite the lack of practice. I can only run on treadmills and soft surfaces like wood for the next couple of weeks; I'll be able to run on hard outdoor surfaces like the road on April 7, after building up leg muscle so that my bone isn't taking all the stress. I'm still going to rehab for a couple more weeks for these purposes and to help my patellar tendonitis. The site http://www.sportsinjurybulletin.com/archive/tibia-stress-fracture.html describes with perfect accuracy the symptoms I experienced. My leg started to feel very tight (an "annoying irritation") and I thought it was muscle cramps or something, but then became "a throbbing torment." There was "a hard nodule [that] appear[ed] on the surface of the bone at the trouble site," which I was concerned about during the month I was unaware of the fact that it was a stress fracture because intensive icing didn't reduce the swelling there. My stress fracture was probably mostly because of overtraining (there was probably too little protection of my tibia because my shin muscles were extremely fatigued), but maybe a protein deficiency could have contributed; I know I wasn't eating perfectly, but I think I did OK with protein--I forget. "The best prevention includes the consumption of a nutritionally adequate diet, avoidance of too-rapid increases in the volume and intensity of training, and the utilization of special exercises which promote the fatigue resistance of shin muscles (remember that your shin muscles are less able to protect your tibias when they are tired)." I am definitely going to follow these precautions.

I cleaned up the Molinism article, rephrasing and elaborating to some extent.
As a fellow New Yorker, I hate to say it, but American Idol contestant Kevin Covais's performance last night was rather pitiful. His dancing was extremely awkward. I think he has potential but he doesn't belong in the competition at this point; Kevin should not have made it into the top 12; Sway and Gideon are much better singers and performers. Too bad Gideon didn't make the Top 12; I am confident that he would've done a great job singing Stevie Wonder songs. I didn't realize that Stevie Wonder is so hilarious until I watched American Idol; God bless him.
I now consider myself unofficially a Roman Catholic. I'm going to try to go to church on Sunday to learn how to become a practicing one.
Praise the Lord God Almighty! My 10/19/05 tibia stress fracture is finally completely healed!

Mary Was a Lifelong Virgin

MYTH
Mary had other children with Joseph after the virgin birth of Jesus

I am recanting the comments I made in my article about Mary's perpetual virginity. Protestants offer several arguments against the perpetual virginity of Mary, which Catholics hold to. They say that Matthew 1:25 implies that Mary had sex with Joseph after the virgin birth, but this is not hinted at in the language. Until also doesn't mean a reversal of the situation in Matthew 22:44; 2 Samuel 6:23; 1 Timothy 4:13; 6:14; 1 Corinthians 15:25, Ephesians 4:13; 2 Peter 1:18-19; Revelation 2:25-26; Acts 25:21; and Romans 8:22. Protestants also say that according to Matthew 13:55-56, Jesus has several biological sisters in addition to three biological brothers: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas. This argument is weak. There are probably more than three sisters, making Jesus have seven or more siblings altogether. This is extremely doubtful because when Jesus went to Jerusalem for Passover at age twelve in Luke 2:41-51, there are no indications that Jesus had siblings. To claim that Mary suddenly started having so many babies after Jesus was twelve is absurd. Matthew 13:55 does not say that Joseph and Mary are the parents of Joseph and James. Joseph and James are the sons of Mary, wife of Clopas [Matthew 27:56, cf. John 19:25]. Mary losing her virginity would contradict the prophecy in Ezekiel 42:44. Protestants denying Mary's perpetual virginity say that in Luke 1:34 Mary is saying, "I have not had sex yet [but will]." In fact, in Luke 1:34 Mary speaks in the present tense with an intention for the future; a pledge to remain a lifelong virgin. Also, the Greek word for brothers in the Bible most often means kinsmen (defined as " a man sharing the same racial, cultural, or national background as another" ), not biological brothers. In the many different contexts brothers (adelphoi) means kinsmen. This is true in Luke 22:32; Acts 1:12-15; 7:26; 11:1; 13:15,38; 15:3,23,32; 28:17,21; Genesis 11:26-28; 13:8; 14:14,16; 29:15; etc.

[Under construction]

Happy Pi Day.

Purgatory is Scriptural, Pt. 1

Revelation 21:27 says that nothing impure shall enter Heaven. Purgatory, then, seems necessary because entire sanctification does not always happen in this life.

Luke 23:43 can't really mean that the thief went directly to Heaven, since Jesus was not in Heaven that day, and wasn't there for about another 43 days. "43 And Jesus said to him, 'Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.'"

A common misunderstanding is that Purgatory is some kind of middle destination between Heaven and Hell. Purgatory is not a second chance for salvation after physical death. Rather, it is the purification of those who are already saved and destined to be in Heaven.

I have recanted my view that 1 Corinthians 3:10-17 cannot refer to Purgatory. I consulted a kind, faithful Protestant who said that "The first passage is dealing with rewards lost or received by the Christian's works. The fire is not referring to the person by his or her works being tried or purified in God's refining fire. If his works are burned up (as wood, hay or stubble), "he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire." It is not the loss of salvation but of reward. (This has no reference to a place of purgatory)." At first this seemed true, but then I had second thoughts. The Greek word zemiothesetai ("suffer loss") used in this context means tha when God judges the quality of each man's work by fire and purifying him, this purification relates to his sins (not just his good works). Protestants denying Purgatory hold to the view that Paul is only writing award God rewarding good works because punishing and purifying a man from sins would be admitting that there is a Purgatory. However, this view is not tenable because 1 Corinthians 3:17 proves that the purgation after death deals with punishing sin. "10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are."

I have a cool book by Richard Bewes called "The Top 100 Questions" which I highly recommend. In the chapter on Purgatory, Bewes states that "Purgatory implies that Christ's sacrifice is imperfect." However, Catholics have a good response to that assertion. Dave Armstrong, in More Biblical Evidence for Catholicism, states that "He has completed the work and done everything necessary in Divine Providence to efficiently save everyone who will be saved, but this work is not yet actualized or appropriated in terms of true sanctity in most of us." Hence, the need for Purgatory as the final stage of sanctification.

Summa Contra Sola Scriptura

Demolishing Fallacious Arguments Against the Deuterocanon

MYTH
Catholics added seven uninspired books to the Old Testament

I am recanting the comments I made in my previous article on the "Apocrypha." The Protestant reasons for rejecting them are wrong. The "Apocrypha" do claim to be inspired [Sirach 24:32-34; Tobit 6:12-22]. Church fathers Cyril, Hippolytus, Clement of Alexandria, Irenaeus, Jerome, Origen, Tertullian, Polycarp, Athanasius, and others treated the Deuterocanon as Scripture. It appears that the New Testament authors allude/refer to the Apocrypha hundreds of times [1]; see for yourself. The Deuterocanon does in fact have predictive prophecy [Wisdom 2:18-20; Baruch 3:36-38]. The doctrines in the Apocrypha which Protestants cite as unbiblical are in fact in agreement with the Bible. [2] If claims to be prophetic are absolutely necessary for canonicity, then 1 & 2 Kings, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Ecclesisastes, Ezra, Nehemiah, Job, Esther, and Ruth would not be canonical. Luke 1:41, Luke 1:46, Luke 1:67, Luke 1:25-27, and Luke 1:36 appear to show that inspiration/charisma didn't cease for 400 years as Protestants claim when they misinterpret 1 Maccabees 9:27; the continuing inspiration is also evidenced by the predictive prophecy quoted in Wisdom and Baruch above. In addition, why take seriously the ruling of an anti-Christian council (Jamnia) which, along with the Apocrypha, rejected the New Testament, which we know to be the Word of God? I am not sure about the alleged historical errors in the Apocrypha; in the meantime we should assume the Apocrypha is "innocent until proven guilty," just like the rest of the Bible. If the Apocrypha is God's Word, then Protestants subtracted from Scripture and Catholics did not add to it. In this case we must call the Apocrypha not even the Deuterocanon, but more properly the Canon.

I'm really a non-denominational Christian. I doubt the existence of purgatory but am completely open to the idea that it does in fact exist. I am considering that the Apocrypha may indeed be inspired. I am fairly certain that salvation is faith plus works and that Sola Scriptura is untenable for many reasons. I don't believe that prayer to Mary is necessary. Catholic apologetics are intriguing, and I am consulting Protestants to see their responses to specific Catholic claims. Again, this will probably take me a year or more to decide.

Friday, March 10, 2006

Right now I am reading the excellent Catholic apologist Dave Armstrong's More Biblical Evidence for Catholicism, a very intriguing book. I believe it's going to take at least another year of thorough research until I make a firm decision to be a Catholic or Protestant.
Kevin, not Gideon, should have been voted off American Idol.

American Idol contestant Ace Young's performance of Michael Jackson's "Butterflies" was superb and sounded just like the original track.

Unfortunately, I think it is very likely that Michael Jackson was guilty of the charges. [1] His guilt in the 1993 incident is unquestionable (see link a below) He has shown that certain rumors about him are probably not too outlandish. Jordy Chandler's decision not to testify during the 2005 trial was stupid and selfish and as a result Jackson may get away with committing more crimes.

Proof of the Theistic God from First Principles

The existence of the theistic God can be demonstrated using the first principles of knowledge, as Norman L. Geisler points out in his must-buy Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics (Baker Academics: Grand Rapids, MI, 1999), ###:
1. Something exists (I do).
2. I am a contingent being.
3. Nothing cannot cause something.
4. Only a Necessary Being can cause a contingent being.
5. Therefore, I am caused to exist by a Necessary Being.
6. But I am a personal, rational, and free kind of being.
7. Therefore, this Necessary Being must be a personal, rational, and moral kind of being, since I am similar to Him by the principle of analogy.
8. But a Necessary Being cannot be contingent (not necessary) in its being, which would be a contradiction.
9. Therefore, this Necessary Being is personal, rational, and moral in a necessary way, not in a contingent way.
10. This Necessary Being is also eternal, uncaused, unchanging, unlimited, and one, since a Necessary Being cannot come to be, be caused by another, undergo change, be limited by any possibility of what it could be (a Necessary Being has no possibility to be other than it is), or to be more than one Being (since there cannot be two infinite beings).
11. Therefore, one necessary, eternal, uncaused, unlimited (infinite), rational, personal, and moral Being exists.
12. Such a Being is appropriately called "God" in the theistic sense, because He possesses all the essential characteristics of a theistic God.
13. Therefore, the theistic God exists.

Atemporal Persons

MYTH
A timeless person cannot exist

Some individuals claim that there can be no atemporal persons because persons must be capable of remembering, reflecting, deciding, anticipating, and deliberating, etc. However, William Lane Craig points out that these are common but not essential characteristics of personhood. Self-consciousness and free volition constitute personhood, and these are not inherently temporal. The timeless God has maximal understanding, awareness, and knowledge (omniscience) in one vision of Himself and all of reality. [1]

As of today 3/5 I am not so sure about purgatory. I am thoroughly examining the issue, and may decide that it actually exists.
I added a review of Dr. Norman L. Geisler's "Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics." [1]

Sabotage from 9/11 Conspiracist Amazon Reviews

I wrote an unflattering review of David Ray Griffin's "The New Pearl Harbor." [1] As I predicted, I received many "not helpful" votes, probably by dogmatic 9/11 conspiracy theorists. Please read and vote for my review as "helpful" if you care about the truth! Thanks. I was once a 9/11 conspiracist, but I came to recognize the falsehood of those views and find it very bizarre that people who have been a conspiracy theorist much longer than I was haven't discarded their absurd views.

Søren Kierkegaard

Søren Kierkegaard was wrongly fideistic. He wrongly downplayed the importance of historical miracles, assumed that there is no rational and evidential support for faith, denied the objectivity and verifiability of religious truth, downplayed propositional revelation and theistic arguments, minimized the necessary historical Christian truths such as the resurrection, suspended ethical judgment, and was agnostic about God's nature.

First Law of Thermodynamics

MYTH
Energy and matter can neither be created nor destroyed

"Energy can neither be created nor destroyed" is a philosophical dogma based on a mistaken view of the 1st law of thermodynamics. The 1st law is accurately stated, "The amount of actual energy in the universe remains constant." This law supports neither theism nor atheism.

Big Bang Was Caused

MYTH
The beginning of the universe was uncaused

Atheists claim that the Big Bang was uncaused. They reason that causal priority implies temporal priority, there was no time before the Big Bang, and thus the Big Bang was uncaused. This claim is false. God is causally, not temporally, prior to the Big Bang [1] and His causing the universe to begin was co-incident with its beginning to exist. The assumption that causal priority implies temporal priority is unjustified.

Norman L. Geisler on the Value of the Shroud of Turin for Apologists

According to Norman L. Geisler's must-buy Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics (Baker Academics: Grand Rapids, MI, 1999), 706, the Shroud of Turin has no "essential" or "tactical" value--the former because the truth of Christianity can be proved without it and the latter because many people doubt whether the relic is genuine--but does have some "theoretical" apologetic value.

Rodney King: Both Sides At Fault

Today is the 15th anniversary of the beating of the LAPD beating of Rodney King. Both the unnecessary force and Rodney King's robbery of a convenience store, spousal abuse, indecent exposure, PCP use, driving while intoxicated, assault, resisting arrest, soliciting prostitutes, etc. are wrong.
NPR is broadcasting a program on methamphetamine use. Rotten.com has a very good article on the subject. [1]

Just Listen

Happy March Madness! I can't wait until I can start running, probably on the 15th. I originally had a tibia stress fracture in mid-October, then 50 days later reinjured my leg when it was almost completely better when I landed on my bad leg after coming down from a dunk. It was an extremely stupid stunt and let it be a lesson to you: always follow doctor's orders. If he tells you no running, jumping, or pounding, that settles it. The reinjury was horrible; I got edema in and around my tibia that was more painful than the original stress fracture; 9/10 on the pain scale vs. 8/10. Why did I get a stress fracture to begin with? Probably because of too much work, too much pounding while running fast for long distances on the road and other surfaces. The cause of stress fractures are often enigmatic, although the good news is that upon full recovery the bone will be stronger and fuller than it was before the injury. I walked around with a pronounced limp for about 30 days, thinking I had just a calf strain, and it was only after that time that I went to an orthopedist and found out it was a stress fracture. If you feel sharp pain, etc., get it checked out right away, and try not to move the injured area (e.g. don't walk unassisted if you have a stress fracture in your leg). I played basketball, just shooting around, for the month before the diagnosis without jumping, and I played knockout. I ran a 7:36 mile the day of varsity basketball tryouts, and worked hard until the coaches told me to stop and sit out because my limp was so bad. Any opportunity I had to be on varsity this past winter season was destroyed when I did the stupid dunk which I hated myself for doing for a few days; the regret was so profound. When I landed there was an amazing shockwave in my leg and after taking another step I collapsed. My leg immediately swelled up with edema, and I called home thinking I needed surgery and apologizing profusely for my extremely poor judgment. I was ashamed in front of my teammates, and frustrated at them when they were right to ask "Why'd you do that? Why'd you even try? That was so stupid. You're a stupid ..." I didn't have an answer so I just cursed repeatedly. I felt outside of my body, and the surprise of the situation overshadowed the injury in that I didn't feel the worst of the pain for several hours. After a visit to the doctor, I was given regular Tylenol, but that didn't do jack, so a week or so later I was given codeine which was highly effective. I will never forget this experience or the lessons I learned from it.

The point is, listen to your conscience, listen to your body, and listen to your doctor.

Importance of Church Attendance

Church attendance is important because of encouragement, honor, worship, servitude, love, instruction, and compassion between all churchgoers.

Mistakes of Albert Camus

Albert Camus wrongly rejected God [1], all war [2], and capital punishment. [3] Camus was a secular humanist, but secular humanism is wrong. [4]

Paragraph 841 of the Catholic Catechism makes a false claim: that Christians and Muslims worship the same God.

God forgive me for this false claim!

American Idol Picks for 2006

American Idol's Jose "Sway" Penala should not have been eliminated last night. Instead, Kevin Covais should have been voted off. My favorite girl contestants are Lisa Tucker, Mandisa, Kellie Pickler, and Katherine McPhee. I think the best guys are Elliot Yamin, Chris Daughtry, Will Makar, and Gedeon McKinney. May the best singer win.
So far Blaise Pascal's Pensees is an excellent read.

Divine Hiddenness

The divine hiddenness argument fails. It is doubtful that more people would come into a saving relationship with God if He were to make His existence more manifest; God showing Himself in a way like spelling out "Jesus saves" in the stars would not necessarily result in a change of heart [Luke 16:30-31]. God's revelation in such events as the plagues on Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea did not make a permanent change in people's hearts. The claim that if God existed He would make His existent more evident is meritless and undermines the claim that the "absence" of such evidence is positive evidence that God does not exist. There is plenty of reason to believe that God, particularly the God of the Bible, exists and interacts with humanity. There are so many confirmed miracles throughout history that this objection is a waste of time.

Solution to Zeno's Paradox of Motion

Zeno's paradox of motion is false. Zeno begs the question when he says that Achilles must past through an infinite number of halfway points in order to cross the stadium because it presupposes that the whole interval is composed of infinite points, when in fact the unequal intervals add up to a finite distance which is traversable.

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel was wrongly a panentheist [1], antirealist [2], negative Bible critic [3], and antisupernaturalist. [4]

Denial of Everlasting Hell Leads to Denial of Everlasting Heaven

One cannot believe in an eternal Heaven and a temporal Hell and be correct because Hell lasts as long as Heaven does.

Appearance of Jesus

Many people are curious as to what Jesus looked like. He probably looked like an ordinary man, with a very tan complexion and dark hair and dark eyes.

Passover Plot Is False

The Passover Plot is false. It contradicts the Gospels' early dates, the known character of Jesus and His disciples, the permanently empty tomb, the explicity physical nature of the resurrection appearances, the verification of Biblical narratives by history and archaeology, the multiplicity of the eyewitness acccounts, and the incredible number of eyewitnesses of the resurrected Jesus Christ.
